Become a Forklift Operator

Responsible for the driving and handling of lifting and material-handling equipment.

Your Mission

The Forklift Operator is responsible for driving and handling material handling equipment (forklifts, stackers, pallet trucks) to move, store, and distribute materials and equipment required for shipbuilding and repair operations. They play a key role in ensuring smooth logistics and safety across the shipyard.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate handling equipment to load, unload, and move materials.
  • Store parts and materials in designated areas within the shipyard or warehouse.
  • Deliver materials to various trades according to operational priorities.
  • Organize storage and waste areas in compliance with HSE regulations.
  • Assist in relocation or setup operations within facilities.
  • Perform basic maintenance and daily checks on handling equipment.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other teams (handlers, crane operators, storekeepers).

Working Conditions

  • Industrial work environment with noise, dust, and heat.
  • Manual handling of heavy loads and possible shift work (night, weekend, public holidays).
  • Good physical endurance required.
  • Protective equipment and machinery provided by the company.

Profile Required

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of material handling equipment and their proper use.
  • Mastery of safety rules for lifting and load transport.
  • Basic understanding of naval technical vocabulary and product symbols.
  • Familiarity with materials, including fragile or hazardous ones.

Personal Qualities:

  • Discipline and strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Team spirit and effective communication.
  • Autonomy and methodical approach.

Required Training:

  • Position accessible without formal diploma.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in material handling preferred.
  • Forklift operating certification (CACES or equivalent) is an asset.

Performance Criteria

  • Quality and speed of material handling and storage operations.
  • Strict compliance with HSE and supervisory instructions.
  • Level of autonomy and initiative.
  • Availability for work outside standard hours.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks safely.
