Your Mission

The Lathe Operator / Machinist manufactures and adjusts mechanical parts used in shipbuilding and ship repair. Working in the mechanical workshop, they operate high-precision machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders) to produce metal parts that meet technical drawings and specifications, contributing to the reliability and performance of vessels.

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare the workstation and install required equipment.
  • Set up and calibrate cutting and measuring tools.
  • Machine metal parts using lathes and other tools (milling machine, grinder).
  • Adjust cutting parameters to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Inspect parts for compliance using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, comparators).
  • Perform basic preventive and corrective maintenance on machines.
  • Keep the workspace clean, organized, and operational.
  • Consistently follow safety regulations and HSE procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in a mechanical and maintenance workshop.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and cutting fluids.
  • Requires good physical endurance and the ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Variable working hours with possible on-call duties during urgent shipyard operations.
  • Precision tools and protective equipment provided by the company.

Profile Required

Technical Skills:

  • Mastery of turning, fitting, and precision machining techniques.
  • Knowledge of metallic materials and their properties.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining measuring instruments.

Personal Qualities:

  • Precision, rigor, and attention to detail.
  • Methodical and organized mindset.
  • Team spirit and clear communication.
  • Ability to work independently.

Required Training:

  • CAP / BEP in mechanics, machining, or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a precision mechanical workshop.

Performance Criteria

  • Dimensional accuracy and finish quality of machined parts.
  • Compliance with production and repair deadlines.
  • Autonomy and efficiency in operating machine tools.
  • Strict adherence to safety and hygiene standards in the workshop.
  • Responsiveness to urgent shipyard requirements.
