Become a Pipefitter

Measuring, shaping, and assembling onboard piping systems for fluid networks in shipbuilding and ship repair.

Your Mission

The Pipe Fitter works on piping systems carrying liquid, solid, or gaseous fluids aboard ships. They read technical drawings, measure, cut, bend, weld, and assemble pipes before installing or dismantling them onboard. They ensure the system’s quality, leak tightness, and compliance with standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret isometric piping diagrams and plans.
  • Prepare materials (cutting, shaping, beveling).
  • Perform welding, threading, and brazing of pipework.
  • Assemble and install piping systems onboard or in the workshop.
  • Bend pipes (cold bending) and perform precision tasks.
  • Check conformity, strength, and leak tightness of piping.
  • Manufacture complex pipe systems using stainless steel, copper, etc.
  • Strictly follow HSE rules and safety procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Work in workshops or onboard ships.
  • Constrained environment: noise, heat, tight spaces, uncomfortable positions.
  • Handling heavy loads, welding, and using specialized tools.
  • Strict safety compliance required.
  • Personal protective equipment provided by the company.

Profile Required

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of pipe materials (stainless steel, copper, etc.).
  • Proficiency in reading isometric and industrial drawings.
  • Welding (arc, TIG, MIG-MAG).
  • Understanding of hydraulic circuits and components.
  • Use of cutting and bending machinery.

Personal Qualities:

  • Precision, attention to detail, and dexterity.
  • Team spirit and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Autonomy and methodical approach.

Required Training:

  • CAP/BEP or equivalent in welding or pipework (e.g., NC3/NC4).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in marine or industrial pipefitting.
